TBT: Our Manliest Pageant Ever, Mr. BTW

10:49 AM

Looking back at high school memories brings back lots of good and bad times for me. Although I am very, very, very glad it's over, there are a few memories from my years in high school that I do hold fondly. One of them was my very first high school pep rally that included the greatest pageant of all time.

Me & my crush. I freaked when he put his arm around me.
We had an awesome spirit week tradition at our school called Mr. BTW. The Friday of our first pep rally, each home room would get a guy, dress him up,and send him around campus getting donations. Then at the end of the day, all of our contestants would perform at the pep rally where our Mr. BTW winner would be announced. My first year experiencing  this pageant was so much fun because my first high school crush was one of the contestants. Full disclosure: I was literally in tears when he came into the room and begged my classmates to take pictures of me with him since I didn't have a camera with me.

At the end of the day, all the guys strutted their stuff on the stage for the school and we even had a talent portion to the show. I can't remember who the winner was, but it was certainly one of my favorite days in high school.

Sadly, the Mr. BTW pageant ended that year in exchange for a more manly segment called "Big Man on Campus". So instead of dresses and weaves, the men wore suits and ties. I liked the old way better, but hey, it was still lots of fun.

Check out more pictures from the day.

One of the most confident contestants.

What high school tradition do you miss most? Did your school do anything crazy for pep rallies as well?

  5. The talent shows and the fashion shows were always my favorite in high school. Although I was heavy into Theatre, I never had the courage to try out for either one. But give me a script and it was on! Thanks for sharing! #SGBC

    1. I loved the plays and shows they has at my school. We went to an arts magnet school so there was always something to attend whether it was dance, theatre, or violin shows.
