The Students' Lifestyle

This year started off in a fog. With complications with school, finding work and the upcoming post college life has left me a little discouraged. I don't have any guarantees right now and that alone has left me not wanting to do anything and wanting to give up. Luckily, I have my husband and great friends to talk to. Being able to vent and talk to them about my problems let me know I'm not the only one who doesn't have it all figured out.  I'm starting to put my goals in front of me so I have something to work towards.

I know I'm not the only one who seems to be stuck in place. My advice is to rememeber that you cannot predict the future, but you can always plan for it.

Favorite
Getting out of the country was the best thing that's happened to me. It really made me realize I don't have to be stuck in one place forever. And I met some amazing people and saw some amazing things.

Before I flew off to Korea, one of my best friends and I took a two week tour of the east coast. We tried to make it educational by touring colleges, but honestly we just wanted to see the sights.

I began writing for my school's newspaper, The AUMnibus, during my sophomore year in college and have been writing there ever since. It's a great feeling to see your work actually be printed and published online for everyone to see.

Seeing BigBang in concert was amazing and I ended up meeting some pretty amazing women through the trip.


Getting a car. I spent a good amount of time taking and missing the bus to get to my classes, which sucked because I had to wake up at least two hours before school to ready and wait on the bus. But then I bought a car which quickly eliminated all of the waiting.

Least favorites

Getting a car. I know I listed this in favorites, but the car was a lemon. I felt like I got sucked into buying it and I wasted lots of money fixing it up. I could have payed off a semester of school for all the money that thing cost me.

I worked a lot during college. I had to. That's not a bad thing in itself, but I allowed my work to consume valuable time I could have taken to spend with friends and family.  I now know how to balance work and life a lot better now and I won't let work take me over me like that again.




Favorites
Movie Nights were always a favorite memory in college. At my University there is $1 movie night, which allows me to see any movie in the theater for $1. $1 movie nights were only offered the first and third Wednesday of each months. Last year I went to every movie night.

Living in an Apartment. It's always great to have my own room and bathroom. I just love the privacy.

Dinner Nights
Sometimes my friends will have dinner nights at their apartment which were always fun.

Going to college football and basketball games were also a highlight from my college experience

Least

Being alone.
 It seems like the older I got the more alone I was in college. One of my old roommate said  it best "you can always tell a freshman from a senior, freshman usually come in packs, while seniors usually walk alone."

College Food.

 The food is okay at times, but whenever the dining hall doesn't have a great dinner, I'm usually stuck eating a burger or pizza.

"I'm sorry, but you do not have enough experience for this position ." This sentence is probably the most frustrating thing to hear while job searching -especially for current college students or recent  grads looking for a job. How are we supposed to get a job if you need experience, but can't get any experience because we're too inexperienced to hire? It's a frustrating paradox many of us have and will encounter during the job search. That's why I've found a few leads on to get you that coveted experience.

Rework your résumé

You may actually have the experience you need, but may not have worded it correctly on your résumé.  Instead of saying you worked the cashier at your retail job,  elaborate to show the leadership, management, and customer service skills you exhibited during the job. If you're a little stuck on how to write it all out, take a look at the job description of your current/past position to help you with the wording.

Go for Another Position

You may not qualify for the position you want, but is there another one in the company that you can take up that will give that experience? Or another that will put the skills you possess to good use? Check the company's openings to see what other positions are available that fit closer to the skills you currently possess. If you're hired on, you can ask to receive training in that area in the future.

Hello 2016 and good-bye 2015! You know the old saying a lot can happen in year? Well a lot has happened to us. We each had our highs and lows, but we're still making it. We're both hoping that 2016 will be a great year. We want to thank all of our readers for staying with us another year  and we hope that in 2016 you will receive a job, a promotion,  get one step closer to receiving your degree. To recap 2015, we decided to list some of our favorite post from this year.

This time last year I was fuming because I knew I would be missing half my Thanksgiving day working behind a register. This time I'll be with my family,but I still feel bad for the workers all over spending their time serving others. Traveling outside of the country is one of the top things to do in your lifetime, but one some of us don't get to do.  Instead of waiting for your honeymoon or a cruise ship, here are a few different ways you can go abroad.

Learning Abroad
Studying abroad is the most traditional and well known way of traveling abroad for students, but you don't just have to go through your school to do it. There are a lot of exciting learning programs you can enroll into if you take the time to do a little research to find them. Whether or not these can go towards school credit is between you and your school, but there is no doubt that you'll get a lot out of it.

Volunteering

Using your time, skills, and talents to help an international community grow or improve is another great way. Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Global Vision International, and many more offer programs to build homes, teaching women empowerment, and among other things.

Halloween is just 24 hours away and we're super excited to get the day started! Time to talk about the P word. Our period is something we wish we could live without, but sadly we're stuck with it. One thing a guy will never understand is what women go through during the time of the month. Last year in college I was so lucky because my period always came on during the weekend. I know some of you think of that as a bad thing, but I'd rather my period come on during the weekend while I'm at home than come on while I'm in the middle of a presentation or on a Monday. One of my worst period moments was two years ago.

Fall is officially here and the new change of weather brings us new shows and returns of others. I was able to binge on a couple of premieres and returns last week thanks to Hulu, and wanted to share what I thought . Be warned, spoilers may appear in the upcoming summaries, so proceed with caution.

Scream Queens (Tuesday 9/8, FOX)

Someone described this show perfectly as a mix between Pretty Little Liars and American Horror Story. It revolves around a sorority that is being targeted by a devil mask wearing villain who is killing them off one by one. The two hour premiere featured celebs Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas, and has KeKe Palmer and Jamie Lee Curtis as regulars So with four of my faves in the premiere, you'd think I love the show right?

If you had asked me what death was in junior high, it would have been staying in Montgomery my whole life. Actually it's a well known fact among my generation and the one before us. My high school economics teacher even urged us all to gt out as soon as we could so we wouldn't be trapped here for the rest of our lives like he and others had been.  Not that Montgomery is the worst city ever. It's filled with historical significance and great food, but everyone knows that the city is a dead zone for anyone looking to thrive in the arts. So when I discovered SCAD -Savannah College of Art and Design- I knew that this would be my one way ticket out. SCAD would be thriving with creative people, in a big city, and the Atlanta campus was  only 2 hours away from home. So you can imagine my excitement when I opened my inbox one night and saw a
"Congratulations!" email from SCAD.

I literally cried. I had actually gotten in!

O'shea Jackson Jr., or as his fans call him O'Bae is the latest hottie on the look out. "O'shea, won't you swing my way?" Who would have thought Ice Cube's son would have been super cute? Don't get me wrong, Ice Cube isn't a bad looking man. Heck my roommate thinks the three moles on Ice Cube's face are super sexy.   Let's take a moment and enjoy the offspring of Ice Cube.

Lately, I've been obsessing over The Weeknd. If The Weeknd went to college, I would notice his hair before his face. (Side note: There is a guy that currently attends my University that has the exact same hairstyle as The Weeknd.)  Anyway, The Weeknd would smoke pot in his filthy dorm room.
