It's Not You, It's Me Movie Review + Giveaway (CLOSED)

12:01 AM

I was recently sent a copy of the film It's Not You, It's Me by Nathan Ives to promote his film. I was not paid for this post and this is my honest opinion on the film.

Earlier this month I received a copy of the film It's Not You It's Me for review purposes from director and screenwriter Nathan Ives. I honestly wanted to see the film because Vivica Fox was a part of the project and wanted to know what a "A Serious Relationship Comedy" was supposed to be about. SO before I get into the review, here's a short summary of the film.
Serial commitment-phobe, Dave (Ross McCall), is reeling from his decision to break up with his near perfect, now ex-girlfriend. As he tries to forget her, his battling inner voices come to life and cloud his
mind with conflicting desires. Meanwhile, Carrie's (Joelle Carter) own disjointed inner voices push her to move on with someone less complicated. Sensing time is short, Dave embarks on a sincere and sometimes fumbled personal journey to conquer his fear of commitment.

What I liked about It's Not You, It's Me was it's honesty. It wasn't like some romantic comedies where the main characters are desperately looking for love or trying to win over their ex. Or where things seem to magically come together in the end. Instead, the characters are actively trying to figure out more about themselves and trying to navigate through life and their relationship. And most importantly it's not predictable, which is a major plus for a movie lover like myself.

Dave and his conscience entourage.
One unique part of the film was the character's conscious. Instead of just having the typical good and evil conscience, the parts of the conscious were more complex and included a voice of reason, a voice of innocence, the voice of depression, among others. Instead of poofing up on their shoulders, the conscience follows the characters around like an entourage and are always giving their two cents for every situation. I thought this was really funny and creative, and can actually see the same voices/thoughts playing out in my own head (minus the crazy one).

There really wasn't a a major problem with me with his film. I did think that the break up scene was a it long, but after a second view I realize that it just added more to the realness of the film. I give It's Not You, It's Me a rating of 9/10. It's a great down to earth film with lots of laughs and actually made me think about my own relationship. The film is currently available to purchase through AmazoniTunes, or Indiereign.
