Surviving Morning Classes

12:36 PM

If there is one thing I hate about college it is morning classes. Having to wake up with the sun and dragging yourself to a freezing classroom to hear a lecture is hardly how anyone wants to start their day off. Since I'm due to take another one of these this semester, it's time for me to learn how to master them. Here are my tips to making morning classes a bit easier.

Prepare before hand
This means getting all your class work and books together the day before to avoid a scramble in the morning.  This way you won't forget to bring things like pens, paper, or that essay that's due today. This also means showering and getting your look ready the day before if you need to.

Eat breakfast
You will feel so much better and more energized when you actually feed your body in the morning. Since I am not a big breakfast fan, I usually go for something light like yogurt, fruit, or hot hashbrowns and eggs.

Do your homework the night before
I know there are other procrastinators like me out there. I would always do homework assignments right before class, but that changed with my morning classes. You can't exactly do a book summary for your 10 AM class when you only woke up at 9:45. Well you could, but it'd be pretty crappy. So finish all your assignments  before the day of class

Change your sleeping habits
I don't really like this one, but it is true. Going to sleep earlier means you will most likely wake up earlier.  This will give you more time and energy for class. So you won't be snoozing during lecture, no matter how boring it is.

Time is the Essence
Most of my morning teachers happened to be jerks really strict and wanted to give quizzes at the beginning of class. So coming in five minutes late everyday meant your grade was being affected. Show your teachers you care and get your money's worth my going to class on time. It will really help your grades and your teachers will notice.

Get a friend
Sometimes you can't help but sleep through an AM class or doze off during a lecture. Make sure you have a friend who is taking the class who can catch you up with notes and other important things you may miss in class. You can also check in on each other to make sure you're both o top of your game and get to school on time.

  1. Love this post! Luckily I have been able to avoid 8AM classes and the earliest I have had class is 9am which isn't nearly as bad. If I am ever unfortunate enough to take an 8AM class I will definitely use all of this information! Sharing this information with my readers!

    1. I'm so not a morning person unless it's Saturday. I guess Saturday morning cartoons trained me to wake up before on the 7th day, but any other time of the week I'm still buried under my sheets. I've been getting better though. Thanks college.

    1. I'm learning that eating first makes me focus on the lecture and not how empty my stomach is. So breakfast is really a necessity!

  9. Preparation is definitely the key here. I used to be a person who just lived by the seat of my pants and I found that life was too unexpected to not prepare.
