Beautiful Creatures Movie Review

10:00 AM

I was having a bad day, so going to the movies was a great way to end the night. A friend that I know from Korean class wanted to see Beautiful Creatures. To be quite honest, I did not want to see the movie. I'm not a huge fan of supernatural/fantasy movies, but decided to go anyway. The film is a love story between a boy and a witch, who has to choose between giving her powers to the dark or the light. Here are a few things that I liked and disliked about the movie:

I Can Relate to The Main Character...Sorta

The main character Ethan Wate, played by Alden Ehrenreich, lives in a small town in South Carolina, and he dreams of leaving the town behind by going to a college that's far away. I can relate to this. I live in a small town and really want to leave here.

It Wasn't Like Twilight

I thought this movie would be similar to Twilight, but it wasn't. The love story between Ethan and Alice Englert, played by Lena Duchannes, was a little cheesy, but towards the end an unexpected twist happens them.

Not A Usual Witch:

I thought Alice was going to be a typical witch, but she wasn't. You can tell that she truly cared about Ethan, but was afraid to fall in love with him because she was scared she would hurt him. On her sixteenth birthday, it would be decided if she would use her powers for good or evil. Since most witches in her family, including her mother, use their powers for evil she was afraid that her fate would make her powers evil. If Alice becomes evil, she would have no feelings towards Ethan and may kill him.

Their Accents

I hate their Southern accents in the movie. When Ethan's narration began, I cringed a bit. His accent seemed forced. I'm from the South and no one really talks that way. I guess that's Hollywood for you.

My Classmate Hated It:

She thought the movie was cheesy. She hated the acting, especially by Lena Duchannes. She thought the plot was typical, and she hated their accents as well.

I guess it's up to you all to watch it for yourself and see if you would like it.

I give the movie a 3 out of 5 stars.
