Each Semester Brings New Friend Groups

"It's funny how someone who was a stranger last year, can mean so much to you now. It's terrible that someone who meant so much to you last year, can be just a stranger now. It's amazing what a year can do."
This quote above describes the friendships that I've experienced in college. My first year in college I've met amazing friends. We hang out everyday, but now, this being my second year, I'm not around the same group of people. What happened? How can the people who were once so close drift apart so suddenly?

I learned the hard lesson of college life and life period; "friends come and go". It's hard to keep a consistent friend, because nothing lasts forever. I don't have issues with any of my past college peers, but I just surround myself with a different group of people now. That doesn't mean the different group of people are any better than the ones in the past.  Having friend groups changing frequently makes me appreciate the present, and  the people I'm with now because who knows what the future may hold. I wish I knew then what I know now, but life is a learning process.

The weird thing is,  no matter how much fun I had with my past friends I don't want "that happiness" back. I don't wish for "that happiness" back because focusing too much on the past distracts me from my present joy. As this semester closes, a few of my friends are leaving and won't come back for spring semester. I'm sad that they're leaving, but I know that people are only in your life for a season. Once that season is up, it's time to let them go.
